Britney Scarbrough,
Product Designer
I've always loved thinking critically and solving problems. Initially, I wanted to be a mechanical engineer. I was also an art nerd – shortly before I graduated high school, my art teachers held an intervention to convince me to get an art degree, and, it worked.
I fell into product design thanks to a craigslist internship post, and the rest is history.
Solving problems within products and teams
I fell in love with design for the love of the craft, but as I've matured in my career, I've learned to apply to design thinking across all parts of an organization.
I have passion for strategy, and deeply love solving business problems in creative ways. I am a core player on any team, and I'm not afraid to dig in beyond my role. I love working closely with product and data to uncover the core business problems. Even better if I get the opportunity to collaborate with engineering to understand the depth of complex systems and limitations to drive practical and effective solutions in a timely manner.
I strive to be an impactful voice in the room, I represent design and users at the head table. I pride myself on my ability to communicate to a variety of audiences, telling the right story to the right people, such that we can get the right things done.

My history
Staff Product Designer @ Empower
2023 – Present
Empower is a Fintech org, serving folks on the lower end of the income spectrum, providing increased access to credit and financial tools. In my time at Empower, I have grown to a Staff Product Designer. In this role, I stretch beyond my delivery roles supporting multiple product arms independently. In conjunction to this, I am a voice for design advocacy internally, and aid in efficiency optimization; stretching from execution standards and delivery processes, improving VQA and dogfooding standards, integration with customer support and building a case for developing user research and testing processes.
Founding Designer @ Shuffle
2020 – 2023
Shuffle was founded to be a podcast app focused on connecting fan communities. Funded by First Round Capitol, I was the third employee and sole designer. I led all design effort, including product, brand, and marketing design as well as UX research and testing. I was a prominent voice in product direction, often defining new product concepts and leading initiatives through build and testing. I hired and managed various design interns and contractors. In response to changing markets after covid, we pivoted into web3 and eventually AI prompting software. I helped define the new direction of the company to identify user segments with business opportunity through deep research.
Product Designer @ SoFi
2019
SoFi is a digital banking company where I worked on the homepage team for the money management app. During my time, I worked to aggregate information from all product teams into a single surface for our
users. I also lead various interdisciplenary efforts to ensure visual quality assurance, in addition to working with product managers to determine what was best suited for the home page of their flagship app.
Product Designer @ Underbelly
2017 – 2019
Underbelly is a digital design agency based out of SLC. As a Product Designer, my primary client was Facebook. Being a contract designer, I operated as a remote team member, fully integrating with their sprints, engineers, and design teams, solving complex UX problems, and making strategic decisions, to empower video creators to build their own businesses doing what they love.
UI / UX Designer @ Teem
2015 – 2017
Teem was a SLC startup, creating conference room management software. At Teem I was the primary UI designer creating custom branded interfaces for their room booking displays. In this role I was able to design
branded meeting room displays for companies such as Expedia, Lyft, and IDEO.
